What is Mindfulness in simple words and how can I achieve it?

Mindfulness is a technique you can learn which involves noticing what's happening in the present moment, without judgement. You might take notice and be aware of your mind, body or surroundings. There are different ways to achieve a state of mindfulness. Some practices that are known to help individuals achieve this state include Meditation, breath work, massage therapy, yoga, counselling or simply immerse yourself in nature. Let's explore a few of these techniques individually.

What are the benefits of Mindfulness practices?

  • Decreased Depression.

  • Increased Emotional Regulation.

  • Reduced Anxiety and Stress.

  • Better Memory.

  • Cognitive Improvements.

  • Stronger Relationships.

  • Better Physical Health.

  • When to Use Caution.

  • Boosted attention, Focus and Concentration

  • Improved Mood

There are 7 attitudes of Mindfulness you can develop as you practice it. They apply directly, moment by moment and day by day, as you cultivate and deepen mindfulness. Theses attitudes are:

  • non-judging,

  • patience,

  • beginner's mind,

  • trust,

  • non-striving,

  • acceptance and

  • letting go.

Breath Work

Additionally, there's breathwork, which uses breathing as the main tool to bring awareness to different parts of the body, allowing the individual to understand the triggers that bring tension to different parts of the body. This can be used together with meditation, as they go hand in hand. Mindfulness states are achieved by bringing oxygen to the brain and different parts of the body.

Yoga Therapy

Additionally, there are practices like yoga that help people connect to their body and hence be entuned with their inner emotions and feelings to be able to interpret them objectively and manage them through self-observation, acceptance and emotion regulation. Kumelka Therapies offers assisted Yoga as part of Massage therapy.

Counselling

Counselling can also present as a great tool to let things out that might be causing emotional tension. Counselling can help tremendously, as it allows the individual to analize their own emotions and come to realizations of the state of mind they currently are, so they can move on to a state of wellbeing.
